Cultural Experiences

Today was a lot of fun. It started with a trip to the Jjimjilbang with some of the other foreign students from my Korean classes. At first we were overwhelmed by the culture shock, but we quickly found the floor where people were wearing clothes and we throughly enjoyed sitting in all the different temperature rooms. We quickly scared away anyone who was already in the room when eight foreigners would enter the room, but that just meant more fun for us! I must say that at first the whole public bath thing was a little strange and I certainly didn't understand why people would spend the night there, but upon investigation, they are pretty cool. They have their own karaoke rooms, PC rooms, and movie rooms, plenty of mats for resting and sleeping on, and this magical sauna room where you lay on these round stones that are heated and fabulously comfortable.

To finish off my day of cultural experience, the whole class came over for a dinner party. One last celebration before students leave for their home countries. We ate foods from around the world again and finished the evening by singing songs in our native tongues. The Americans I must admit cheated and all went up together and sang Jingle Bell Rock (as best as we could remember!)
